What do you get when you bring together Seventy-six educators from around the world for one week at SMART Headquarters in Calgary, Canada? Learning, growth, inspiration, friendships, connections, collaborations, laughter, support, silliness, a broken foot and magic. I don't know how Deena Zenyk, Heather Lamb and Ainhoa Marcos put this all together but the results were indeed pure magic. We learned new things about SMART products such as the amazing collaboration software SMARTAmp and what's new with Notebook 14. We also learned about things to come and even helped create a few new things. (Sorry signed a Non-Disclosure agreement so you will have to wait) This was my first experience with a hackathon and it was awesome. The people were amazing and there was always time for laughter and a little silliness in addition to the serious business of creating. Monday to Thursday all day we were immersed in activities, discussions and presentations designed to teach and inspire. The evenings and Friday were spent joyously enjoying our new friendships and rekindling old. It is hard to believe it was only one week. I think every one of us suffered "Summit Withdrawal" upon having to leave the magic and return to our normal lives. However, we carried with us plans for future connections and global collaborations inspired by Boris Berlijn, Kate Seward, Bob Young, Giovanna Bicego, Chris Collins and Maria Grazia. What a great way to remind us that learning can and should be fun! This was the most enjoyable and inspiring professional development I have ever experience. Together we a better than alone. |
