- Newseum Summer Teacher Institute - "Truth, Lies and Consequences: Real Media Literacy for a Fake News World"
- Code.org Teacher Workshop
- Google for Education Summit - EdTechTeam (Presented)
Autumn seems a bit late to be posting about this but in fact many programs have begun seeking participants for summer 2018. While each of these opportunities was outstanding in its own way this post is about the Newseum Summer Teacher Institute.
The Institute was wonderful on every level. The Newseum venue was amazing. The people were kind, knowledgeable, and presented the material well. The content was applicable, adaptable and easily incorporated into future lessons. Even the food was great. (Rumor had it that it came from the Wolfgang Puck restaurant upstairs) Each day consisted of: a hands-on lesson from their menu of teacher and class workshops available here (I highly recommend you make a free educator account as there are great resources you can use no matter where you live); a tour or opportunity to self-tour the Newseum; and a presentation of primary sources (so cool!) or sources available on their website.
Day 1: Identifying Fake News
Day 2: Responding to Fake News
Day 3: Avoiding Fake News Pitfalls
This is not a paid endorsement. The only thing I received was some great training, a few posters and books, and wonderful memories.
Thank you Newseum, for caring for educators. Praising your efforts in a blog is the least I can do.
